Are You Looking for........

This time of year we all start thinking about the perfect gift for the people in our lives.  It is definitely not about how much money you spend, but the thought you put into the gift.  Below are some of my thoughtful gift ideas for this season.  :)

  1. B.U.C.K. By MK Asante - I cant wait to read this!
  2. A Personalized throw.  Hey what better way to always be remembered.
  3. Sunglasses, the funky but grown up kind.
  4. Noise Canceling headphones.
  5. Last but not least maybe committing yourself to being a work out partner or healthy lifestyle accountability partner.  (This definitely is the top of my list.)

Mandela

Today my news feed caught fire with the news that Nelson Mandela the South African activist had transitioned from this life. I was in the 11th grade when I learned 2 great lessons for life from this great leader. 1)He taught me that change will come. It doesn't matter when, what matters is that you continue to fight for justice. Never compromise your soul. 2) that injustice anywhere is disastrous to humanity everywhere. I remember marching in protest of the Rodney King verdict while changes where happening in South Africa. If it weren't for the perseverance of Nelson Madela I don't believe me or my classmates would have thought that change was possible. We had an account of great perseverance in our life time.

Good Outfits

I like getting dressed!! Did I mention that? To me that means having a vision of what I am going to wear and having all the piece's in my wardrobe. When that happens I am in *Bliss**. Monday was one of those days. I was in between my HIP HOP feelings and being dressed for the weather. This is what I came up with.

There's Levels to this........

There are key pieces to every wardrobe. the following are key pieces I think all professionals should own. Level 1 - A white dress shirt. Can be worn with many other things on the list and can be dressed up or down. Level 2 - A pair of Black Dress Pants. (Ladies you can add a skirt as well) Paired with the white shirt professionalism is on the horizon. Level 3 - A pair of Khaki pants. You never know when you need this for a professional outing that is not casual enough for jeans. Level 4 - A Blazer. Preferably in black to coordinate with your black slacks. You now have a suit whether you brought them together or not :). Level 5 - A Trench or Rain Coat. Keep you professional look even when its cold out. (side note: no baby phat bubble with fur or Wu-Tang leather, there's a time and a place for everything.) Level 6 - A pair of black shoes. Whether Female or Male black dress shoes are a good finish to a professional look. Level 7 - A watch. When you are on another persons time, a watch is a nice touch. These my recommendations for the foundations of a professional wardrobe.  There are always things that you can add but these are the basics that transcend gender and social class.

What a deal

So a couple of weeks ago I was in the mall with my daughters. I saw some really nice shoes. They were $90. I had to really consider would this be a good purchase. So we were in the mall again for Black Friday i thought "oh there's a sale, I can get those shoes on discount." LOL ....they weren't there! So knowing that I have 5 children and on is in college, you know I just don't spend $90 with out doing my homework or a discount :)!! So I put the shoe name in on line and there they were for less than half ($41.88) on CYBER Monday!! So the moral of the story is there is always a way to save!!! I cant wait to post pics of them on my feet!!!

Love......

First you have to acknowledge there is something, someone greater than yourself. Look at the world, examine life and see that you are not here alone. That everyone plays a role, is here for a purpose. We have to stop being consumed with attaining things. When we focus on the material things we don't have we loose sight of the love we do have. So here is a song that will remind you that we all should "get together and feel all right" for truly we are one and all there is is love. http://youtu.be/2Gq9GFEIbSA
